Our client is seeking a skilled HVAC Maintenance Mechanic II with a Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician License to support the installation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC and mechanical plant systems.
This role focuses on maintaining large-scale commercial equipment including boilers, chillers, rooftop units, and air handling systems to ensure reliable and efficient facility operations.
Key Responsibilities of the HVAC Maintenance Mechanic II
Boiler & Steam Systems
- Service and troubleshoot commercial oil burners
- Maintain low-pressure commercial steam boilers (<150 bhp)
- Service steam traps and condensate systems
Chiller & Cooling Systems
- Perform maintenance and complex repairs on centrifugal chillers
- Monitor and maintain cooling towers
Air Handling & Rooftop Systems
- Service and repair large packaged rooftop units (10+ tons)
- Maintain VAV systems and air handling equipment
Mechanical Plant Systems
- Maintain and repair various commercial mechanical plant systems
- Use standard and diagnostic tools including ladders and man lifts
Schedule
- Full-time (40 hours per week)
- Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Requires scheduled or unscheduled overtime
- Occasional weekend or off-hour rotational coverage
- On-call or emergency response as needed
Required Qualifications of the HVAC Maintenance Mechanic II
Licenses
- Current Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician License (Required)
- Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License
- Ability to pass a DOT physical exam to operate fleet vehicles
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of commercial or industrial HVAC/R experience
- Experience working with commercial plant equipment including boilers, chillers, and rooftop systems
- Experience with BAS monitoring and troubleshooting
- Familiarity with Schneider Electric StruxureWare and/or Johnson Controls Metasys
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Certificate or diploma from a recognized technical institution in refrigeration and heating technology
Technical Skills
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Ability to use standard computer software for documentation
Preferred Certifications
- Massachusetts 1st Class Fireman’s License
- Pipefitter’s License
- NATE Certification
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods
- Work in environments with loud noise and temperature extremes
